There are so many things that are just plain broken in life, so many things that are not ideal, all of it is “Fixed” in Christ. Now, before you dismiss this as just delusional “pie-in-the-sky” optimism, let me explain.
If we will give ourselves to our relationship with Christ in earnestness, intensity and consistency, He will put ALL THINGS in order. Now, I am not implying that all of life’s problems and issues will be corrected and done away with, or that we will somehow avoid trials and tribulation and troublesome people or situations, no that will *always* be a part of life. What is “fixed” is the mental torment that we put ourselves through in trying to process it all and “fix things” on our own.
Jesus said in Matt 11:28-30 – “Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I WILL give you rest. Take My yoke upon you, and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart; and YOU SHALL FIND REST FOR YOUR SOULS, for My yoke is easy, and My load is light.” In Isaiah 26:3 it says this “Thou wilt keep him in PERFECT PEACE, whose *mind* is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee”.
The cause of inner turmoil, frustration and lack of inner peace in a Christians life boils down to one thing, a mind and heart that is not “stayed upon thee”, it really is that simple. If a Christian is waiting for issues, or situations, or people in their lives to get better before they will be happy and have the peace and joy of the Lord, then they will wait their entire lives and will never obtain it. When we put our hope in this temporal world, we will most always be disappointed, but when we put our hope in Christ by daily focusing on the “things above” and “seeking first the Kingdom of God, and His righteousness”, we will not be disappointed!
Phil 4:6-7 – Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, *shall guard your hearts and your minds* in Christ Jesus.
Think about that passage for a minute, what are we told to worry and fret and be anxious about? NOTHING. We are told through the agency of prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, to lay it all before Him. If we will do that with earnestness and consistency, then something incredible happens; He fills us with an inner peace that defies human understanding and guards our hearts AND MINDS in Christ Jesus. Does he promise that everything will be corrected? No, what changes is something internal, within us, within the heart, mind and soul, which is why we are told in Prov 4:23 to: Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.
The account of Mary and Martha is a perfect picture of this. Mary chose to sit at the feet of Jesus and listen to him while Martha “distracted” herself with preparation. When Martha, filled with inner frustration finally couldn’t contain herself anymore she said “Lord, tell my sister to help me!” What is Jesus’ response? Luke 6:41-42 – But the Lord answered and said to her, “Martha, Martha, you are worried and bothered about so many things; but only a few things are necessary, really only one, for Mary has chosen the good part, which shall not be taken away from her.”
How often, like Martha, do we find ourselves “bothered” by many things and filled with inner turmoil and frustration because too often we neglect the *one and only* remedy, which is to sit at the feet of Jesus each day, commune with our Lord and friend, and let Him fill us with His righteousness, His peace and His joy. It is only from that place that we can effectively: “Sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the HOPE that is in you” (1 Pet 3:15).
